Wren’s First Birthday

See this girl?

This adorable, happy little girl is now a one year old.

We held a birthday party for her on Saturday and, well… it didn’t quite go so well. Poor little girl was teething and didn’t nap well, which led to a meltdown during the gift opening.

Looking back now, I don’t think it was actually as bad as I remember it - and it will definitely be a day to remember.

I worked very hard on all the food and decorations, and I was really happy with how they turned out. I got a lot of inspiration from Pinterest, and put my own twist on things.

I got everything carefully arranged, and had hubby snap some pics before the guests arrived at noon.

Michael’s craft store was my savior - I got almost all the decorations there, and their dollar bin is a treasure trove of neat little items (like the clothes pins). I also found a ton of bird-related items for a really affordable price.

I actually had fun making Wren’s cake. It was my first attempt, and I think it turned out well. I used store-bought cake mix and frosting to keep it simple, and dyed the frosting using food coloring.

I also made some yummy s’mores pops.

Here is a glimpse of some of the other decorations:

And finally, the most important part; the birthday girl:

The gift opening may have resulted in a meltdown, but the cake resulted in a much different reaction. This girl LOVES cake.

What an amazing little girl.
